Welcome to...
THE BUSY & INTERESTING LIFE OF THE SARIS FAMILY
I relived my childhood through my daughter today... Matt and I took Lexi to Sesame Street Live - When Elmo Grows Up! It brought back faint memories of when I was little and got to go see the show at Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum. Lexi was amazed! We were pretty close and there were empty seats in front of us, so she got a really good view. She was soooo good and sat pretty well through the entire 1 hr. 20 min. show (including a 15 min. intermission when mommy broke out the Teddy Grahams). Her favorite part seemed to be any scene when the mirrored ball was being used. She loved the "dots" it created all over the walls of the theater. I believe we saw just about every Sesame Street character that is currently on the show. What a performance - and a great "last outing" before we become a family of four.
Matt's cousin Sarah (Bodnar) Schmeltzer is in town this week with her 5½ month old daughter Addison, so Lexi and I decided to pay them a visit this afternoon. Grandma Chris was going to come with us until the weather took a turn for the worse and she decided to stay home. We had a very enjoyable visit with the two ladies. Addison is really growing and it was great to meet her for the first time. Sarah is doing good and we had a really nice chat - mostly about babies and how fast they grow - while Addison bounced in her bouncer and Lexi played with Addison's toys. Soon Sarah and Addison will be flying home to daddy in Las Vegas, but hopefully we will see them next time they come for a visit!
We finally have potty success! About 2 weeks ago, Lexi sat on the potty when she was home with daddy. She had been sitting on the potty for a few weeks, but had never actually deposited anything IN the potty. Well, she pee-pee'd in the potty that morning! Lexi called mommy at work and daddy took her out and got her a new Dora bath toy and also a stuffed Goofy doll for being such a big girl. In the weeks following, Lexi has still been sitting on the potty, but once again not depositing anything IN the potty... until today! Gra-Nola, G.G. Eileen, Pa-Pa Bud and cousin Kaitlyn were here for the weekend and Lexi went in to sit on the potty once again (right after breakfast). All of a sudden, daddy called mommy into the bathroom and said "Guess what Lexi did?!" You guessed it! She pooped in the potty!!! We were so excited! Lexi washed her hands and happily received the Dora candy cane and M&M's daddy has been promising her if she were to ever poopy in the potty. As the day progressed, we later asked Lexi if she had to sit on the potty again. She said "Yes" so we proceeded into the bathroom again just after supper. To our surprise, she pooped in the potty AGAIN!!! That makes twice in one day!!! She once again got a handful of M&M's and we were all so excited! Maybe this is the start of big girl undies and no more diapers (at least for a few months until baby #2 comes along)!
I think we may have found Lexi's love in life (at least for the time-being). She has really grown to LOVE going to Little Gym every Wednesday morning. When daddy comes home from work and asks her what she did, she babbles on and on about balls, bubbles, bells, and bars. Today we discovered the rings! Also new today was the inflatable bouncing rink. She wasn't sure what to think of this at first, but once she experienced jumping on the giant moonwalk she was then the last child to get off. At Little Gym, we are in the Beastie class (which is mommy - or daddy - and child). Grandma Chris actually went with us today to learn the ropes - for when baby comes in May and mommy can't take Lexi every Wednesday - Grandma has to fill in for a few weeks. We start out in a circle and say all our names while ringing bells. Next, we warm up by walking, running, galloping, and various other forms of moving in a circle. After that, we go on to whatever skill we are learning for the day. Today it was the rings! They were low enough for Lexi to grab on to without help. Then she would swing back and forth until the fell off. Some weeks we learn some sign language and we always encorporate singing songs into our routine. After some free time doing whatever the kids want, the balls come out. Lexi always goes for the green ones - maybe our favorite color?? After balls comes bubbles and then the bells come back out to say good-bye. It is really quite a lot to fit into 50 minutes of class. Before we leave, all the kids get a stamp on their feet and hands. It is a great release for some of her energy and a great way for her to interact with other kids her own age (especially since she doesn't go to daycare or pre-school yet). Here are just a few pictures of our Little Gym adventure this morning.
Well, another Super Bowl has come and gone. We had the pleasure of visiting Marc and Jennifer Earl's new house for a Super Bowl party. Lexi had a great time and really loves their 2 little dogs (Guiness and Carsyn). I have to admit, I didn't really watch the game. The commercials were interesting as usual and Jen made some really good food for us to eat! Lexi filled up on chips and we all had a good time. The Cardinals almost pulled it off, but couldn't hold on to the lead for quite long enough to finish the game.
